Hey y’all! I hope y’all had a great weekend. To any of my Orthodox readers, I hope you had a great Easter. Today I wanted to share with y’all Grant and I’s first ever Dapper Day! We went to the Magic Kingdom day on Saturday and had a great time getting photos and seeing some amazing and creative dapper outfits. We unfortunately couldn’t go to the Epcot Dapper Day on Sunday since I had an exam, but we are already brainstorming for the fall 😉
For those of you who are unfamiliar, Dapper Day was started in 2011 by designer Justin J. Its goal is to celebrate creative, refined style from the early 1900’s and beyond. There are currently events held at Disney World in FL, Disneyland CA, and Disneyland Paris throughout the year. Disney World and Disneyland have both Fall and Spring events, so if you missed it this time around, there’s another chance to participate in the Fall! I’ll link Dapper Day’s website here so you can checkout their upcoming events!
The great thing about Dapper Day is that it doesn’t cost anything! The Disney World event typically holds outings at Disney Springs, Magic Kingdom, and Epcot throughout the weekend. You basically just need park admission if you want to attend at Magic Kingdom and Epcot, and of course Disney Springs doesn’t require admission. While there are certain “scheduled” events sponsored by Dapper Day throughout the weekend, this is all about mingling and meeting new people! It’s a great way to meet new friends or spend time with old ones. There are also plenty of people on social media who organize meet-ups if you come alone, or with a group, and want to meet some new friends.
Some people are the true Queens and Kings of Dapper Day. They work out their wardrobe for months, spend hundreds of dollars, and even sew their own outfits. And if you want to do that, GO FOR IT! BUT, don’t feel obligated to! Dig into your closet and see what you can come up with. Another popular option is to thrift! You can find super unique pieces for more than affordable prices. And thanks to online shopping it’s easier than ever to get an affordable Dapper look, especially on Amazon. If you want to splurge, Disney themselves sell some AMAZING Dapper-style dresses for all shapes and sizes, and even for little ones! They’ve got you covered with coordinating jewelry, handbags, and even ties for men.
I got my Tiki Room dress from Disney, and it really was worth every penny. It is super high quality and fits perfectly, and the straps are even adjustable. I’ve actually had this dress for 3 years, and I finally got to wear it! They still carry it so I will link it here. I wear a size XS in the Disney Dress Shop dresses, I’m a size 2/4 and bra size 34C for reference. They also have the same dress for little girls. I knew I wanted a petticoat to give my dress some volume, but I didn’t want to spend a ton of money. I ended up ordering one on Amazon for under $20, and I am VERY impressed with how well it worked out! It was exactly what I needed, and I highly recommend it – I’ll link it here. It comes in a variety of colors and goes up to size 2X Plus; I got a size M for reference.
As for accessories, I knew I wanted something for my hair. I again turned to Amazon since I didn’t want to break the bank. I was once again shocked with how well it turned out. I got this orange fascinator for under $10. It comes in a variety of colors and also comes with a headband, which you can clip the fascinator on if you’d like. My dole whip bag charm is from my Etsy shop – use code DAPPER for 15% off. While Disney does sell a tie that matched the print of my dress, we were on a budget lol. So I grabbed a matching orange bow tie for Grant that was under $10 as well. Since I already had my dress and shoes, my outfit cost $25. Grant had his shirt, pants, belt, and shoes so his attire cost $7. So total we spent around $32, proving you can do Dapper Day for a low cost! Dresses on Amazon similar in style to mine can be found between $20-$40. Just search the internet and see what you can find!
Don’t feel pressured to overspend for Dapper Day. You don’t have to wear real “vintage” items, you don’t need to buy an expensive dress, and you don’t have to pay to get hair and makeup done. You’ll have just as fun in a dress from your closet or from a thrift store. It’s all about who you spend the day with and feeling confident about yourself! This was my first time dressing “dapper” and it made me feel so confident and beautiful! I had a blast and hope to go again in the fall with friends. Let me know down in the comments if you’ve been to Dapper Day or tell me about a favorite look you’ve seen from the weekend.
Thanks for reading!
