It is time for another wedding planning diary! It is crazy how out of order our whole wedding planning process has gone lol. But hey, as long as it all gets planned I guess that is all that matters…? On Sunday we made a crazy decision to book our honeymoon. It was not our intention whatsoever to book it this early, but everything presented itself & kinda fell into place – so we went for it!
So… We’re going to Greece AND Italy!
More specifically, we are going on an 8-night Mediterranean Disney Cruise aboard the Disney Magic. We’ve had our eye on this specific cruise for a few months, but we also had other ideas for our honeymoon – Paris was the biggest contender. We ended up going with the cruise for a few reasons
- SAFETY: Neither of us have ever been to Europe. And I’m not going to lie, the thought of Grant and me going to Europe ALONE for the first time ever and not having a clue about anything kinda wigged me out. We personally feel much safer being on a boat with the name Disney on it rather than going to a city we don’t know and trying to make the right choices.
- PLANNING: I have a lot going on over the next year; I move to PA, graduate college, and plan my destination wedding. Needless to say the last thing I’ll have the time to do is plan some European Tour for us. Going with the cruise gave us the ability to visit multiple cities without even thinking about it & having trusted guided tours offered to us through the cruise line.
- PRICE: I mean I truly don’t know the specifics of how much it would of been to do something like Paris and/or England for a week+. But we honestly got a really good deal on the cruise and that includes all of our meals & the vast majority of on board entertainment. So at the end of the day I feel like we are getting more bang for our buck.
- TOUCH OF DISNEY: It is no secret we’re huge Disney fans. And honestly, we really wanted to include Disney into our honeymoon somehow. If we went to Paris we would’ve gone to Disneyland Paris and if we would’ve gone to Hawaii we’d stay at Aulani. So this was the perfect way to do part Europe while having the world class Disney service & entertainment. Plus, Grant and me would rather see Broadway-style shows and do meet & greets than gamble and party – so a Disney Cruise is up our alley lol.
Now let’s get into the specifics of the cruise: when is it and where is it going? Our cruise will be June 19-27, 2021. Yes, our wedding is the month before. But we have been planning to do our honeymoon separate from our wedding for a while. We just want some time to chill after being in Florida for a week for our wedding lol. Even my Dad suggested we wait – he wishes my Mom and him had.
We’ll be boarding our ship in Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy. So if you have any input on flying into Rome please contact me! We’ve heard that it may be best to fly to Dublin then to Rome. Thankfully we have some time to figure it out considering flights for those dates aren’t even available yet – but it’s good to think ahead.
Our itinerary is as follows:
Day 1: Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy
Day 2: At Sea
Day 3: Kefalonia, Greece
Day 4: Mykonos, Greece
Day 5: Piraeus (Athens), Greece
Day 6: Santorini, Greece
Day 7: At Sea
Day 8: Naples (Pompeii), Italy
Day 9: Civitavecchia (Rome), Italy
I can genuinely say I am so excited for each one of these ports! But I am particularly excited for Kefalonia. This is the island in Greece where my last name Keffalas comes from, so it’ll be amazing to go. Additionally, from what I’ve read it is one of the “less visited” spots in Greece. Grant and myself both love history, so Pompeii is definitely on our radar! It will truly be a once in a lifetime experience.
We are both so excited for this amazing trip! It’s going to be full of firsts and so many dreams will come true. It’s exciting enough to be going to Greece & Italy, but to be doing it on a Disney Cruise ship truly puts it over the top for us! I’m excited to start reading up on these beautiful places, see what excursions we want to do, and decide what we want to see.

Cheers!

Yayyy!! Congrats!!! My husband and I did a Mediterranean cruise too for our honeymoon and left from the same port. I will suggest when booking your flight to make sure there is a couple of hours between your connecting flights. Our if your able to get a direct flight at good price go for it. Our connecting flight was only an hour apart and our first flight was delayed. This caused our checked bag to get lost because our first flight was so late we almost didn’t make our connecting flight. On that note make sure you pack some extra clothes in a carryon in case. We were able to get our checked bag back but we didn’t see it until they dropped all the suitcases off at the rooms on the ship. It was also a mission cause we had to constantly call the airport to see the status on our bag. Even try seeing if you can book your flight through your cruise line. Also, we decided to get there a day early so we could explore Rome and then stayed at a hotel close to the port.
