Having lived in Pittsburgh most of my life, I know what it’s like to brave the winter. While I do love living somewhere with all four seasons, winter is the hardest season for me fashion wise. Today I wanted to share some key pieces in my wardrobe that I reach to during these cold months.
Whether you live up north – or maybe you’re taking a winter vacation somewhere cold – hopefully these pieces can help you nail down your winter fashion. And help keep you warm!
High Quality Socks
Warmth starts at the base – and you need a pair of great socks! Whether you always have chilly toes like myself, or you’re going to be spending extended time outdoors – nice socks are a must. I love a good pair of alpaca socks, but cashmere socks are a great option as well. While they’re certainly pricier than your average pair of socks, they’re a great investment that will last you for years!
Winter Boots
It can be hard to find cute yet functional winter boots. The real key with this is finding a pair that you can still comfortably wiggle your toes in. If you can’t move your toes – your feet will get numbingly cold! These ones from J.Crew are great if you want something a bit more tactile chic look. A pair of waterproof chelsea boots would be great as well for something a bit more clean looking.
Layering Pieces
Of course when it’s cold outside layering is essential. Depending on if you’ll be outside for extended periods you may need to layer more or less. I recently grabbed this base layer set from Amazon, and I am super satisfied! If you don’t need to go that extreme, I recommend grabbing a few neutral colors in a fitted turtleneck that you can layer with sweaters or even do a Princess Diana sweatshirt look!
Quality Fabrics
Another huge component of winter fashion is the fabrics you select. This can be make or break in the longevity of your pieces as well as if they’ll do the job of keeping you warm. You want to be looking for wool, cashmere, or even a nice fleece. Dudley-Stephens is by far my favorite fleece brand, and they’re eco-friendly! You can look for these fabrics in everything from your coats to your sweaters. It’s certainly worth it to invest in these high-quality fabrics to build a capsule wardrobe of sorts that will last you years to come.
Chic Winter Accessories
If you want to pull your look together you’ll definitely want some chic accessories. I personally love a cute pair of ear muffs – that way you don’t need to commit to hat hair. A thick scarf is both fashionable and functional as well. Some leather gloves with a fun twist are perfect for winter too!
