If y’all read my New Year’s goals post, you know that I wanted to try to read more, and I am happy to report that I read two books last month! This is huge for me because I have the attention span of a goldfish and it’s really hard for me to find a book I am interested in. Today I wanted to share with y’all some spoiler-free, mini reviews of the books I read this month. We are currently reading the book Finding Dorothy and technically started it in January, but I’ll be sure to update you on that once we finish it.
Mean Streak
by Sandra Brown
4.5/5 Stars
I really enjoyed this book! However, there were some plot holes as well as some strange sexual portions that made me knock off .5 point on my rating system lol. I would categorize this as a mystery/thriller, and it had some great plot twists until the very end!
Without spoiling too much, the story is about a woman named Emory who goes out into the wilderness to train for a run. After passing out, she wakes up the next day in a cabin in the middle of nowhere. She was brought there by a mystery man and struggles to get out. While the man is not violent with her, he refuses to answer her many questions which causes fear within her. When her husband goes looking for her, the FBI gets involved and Emory’s life is turned upside down, forcing her to make some hard decisions.
I highly recommend this book! It was super interesting, kept my attention, and it was truly hard to put down. Parts of it were predictable while other portions truly shocked me. It was a great read to kick off the year with!
Shark Tales: How I Turned $1,000 into a Billion Dollar Business
by Barbara Corcoran with Bruce Littlefield
5/5 Stars
So I originally purchased this book for Grant for Christmas, but I am so glad I read it as well! If you’ve ever watched Shark Tank, you may be familiar with Barbara Corcoran, the spunky shark with a pixie cut. This book is half memoir, half business advice. So if you’re into business and/or into Shark Tank, this book is for you!
The majority of the book jumps back and forth between her childhood and her starting her real estate company. She shares the lessons she learned as a child and how she incorporated those into her business years later. The last portion of the book is about her experience on Shark Tank; how she got there, her favorite deals, etc.
There was nothing about this book I did not like! And while she had a co-author you can definitely hear her voice in the writing. I appreciate Barbara because, like me, she has a no-nonsense personality, so it’s a great peek into her personal and business life and how/why she is the way she is.
Cheers!
xoxo
